PIKEVILLE
After the
war of 1812, 30 acres of land was purchased for the town of
Pikeville. Pikeville was incorporated as a town in 1830. After 1850,
territory from Bledsoe County was taken to form parts of Cumberland
and Sequatchie counties.
Pikeville is an incorporated city and has a mayor-alderman form of
government.
BLEDSOE COUNTY
Bledsoe County has a long and interesting history. The county was created
by the Tennessee State Legislature in 1807 from part of Roane
County. This was the 33rd county created in the state.
Settlers moved into the Sequatchie Valley soon after the treaty with
the Indians was signed, ceding the first part of the valley to the
state of Tennessee in 1805. Bledsoe county is the northernmost
county of the valley.
